STA Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Swimming

The STA Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Swimming qualifies learners to teach non-swimmers through to advanced participants. You would be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating a series of progressive and fun swimming lessons teaching non-swimmer through to advanced participants.

You will be able to teach a range of aquatic and safety skills such as floating, rotation, water confidence, swimming strokes, water safety and competitive starts and turns. You would be responsible for ensuring the lesson area and appropriate equipment is safe and promoted good teaching and learning.

Assessment: You will complete a portfolio of evidence. In addition to this there is a final end course theory multiple-choice question assessment paper and an external assessment of practical teaching.

Pre-requisites: You must be at least 16 years of age and hold the STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming or acceptable equivalent. (Please note the Swim England Level 1 Award in Aquatic Teaching is not an acceptable entry requirement)

STA Level 2 Award in Aquatic Teaching – Disability Swimming

The STA Level 2 Award in Aquatic Teaching – Disability Swimming is for learners who wish to work with participants who have a disability in mainstream or disability swimming lessons and help them to develop, both as swimmers and individuals in the aquatic environment. As a disability swimming teacher, you would be responsible for planning, teaching and evaluating a series of progressive, fun and inclusive swimming lessons teaching participants a range of basic aquatic and safety skills such as floating, rotation, water confidence and swimming strokes adapted to individual participant needs. You would be responsible for ensuring the lesson area and appropriate equipment was safe and promoted good teaching and learning.

Assessment: The is tutor assessed through the completion of a scheme of work, lesson plans, a lesson evaluation form and practical teaching. In addition to this, there is a final end of course theory multiple-choice question assessment paper.

STA Level 2 Award in Aquatic Teaching – Baby and Pre-School Swimming

The STA Level 2 Award in Aquatic Teaching – Baby and Pre-School Swimming qualification aims to produce teachers who can teach aquatic activities, including paddle strokes to babies, toddlers and pre-school children during adult and child lessons. You would be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating a series of progressive and fun lessons teaching babies through to pre-schoolers and their accompanying adult. You will be able to teach a range of aquatic and safety skills such as floating, rotation, water confidence and basic swimming strokes. You would be responsible for ensuring the lesson area and appropriate equipment is safe and promote good teaching and learning.

Assessment: You will be tutor assessed through the completion of a scheme of work, lesson plans, lesson evaluation form and practical teaching. In addition to this there is a final end course theory multiple-choice question assessment paper and an external assessment of practical teaching. Learners are externally assessed teaching a 15 minute lesson to between 2 – 4 adult and child pairs.

Pre-requisites: You must be at least 18 years of age or older and hold the STA Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults certificate or acceptable equivalent (must have been completed within the last 3 years).
